A very special Karmann Ghia

Happy New Year to everyone out there! We are still travelling and visiting friends in Australia. Taiga Lily is back home in Berlin in a garage. Work on her will continue only in March. In the meantime, here is a beautiful Karmann we saw some days ago in Gippsland, Victoria. It is a 1961 model. One of the previous owners exchanged the original engine with a 1.6 l, 75 PS engine of a Porsche 356b from 1960. The wheels are also from Porsche. What a beauty!

Australian Karmann Ghia | Campervan Crazy

[…] Not a kombi, but a close cousin, and what a beautiful one: Here comes a Karmann Ghia, spotted 2 weeks ago at the National VW Club Bug-In in Geelong. In the Volkswagen nomenclature, this is a Type 14, built on the mechanical base of the Type 1, the beetle. Like the beetle and kombi, it came with a flat-four air-cooled engine in the back. Volkswagen outsourced its production to the German coach builder Karmann, while the design came from the Italian company Ghia. The Type 14 was built between 1955 and 1974.
