Another Cool Camper Truck

5 07 2012

We saw this impressive old MAN camper truck during a trip through Northern France in September 2007 when we stayed for the night on a rest place in Verdun. What a monster! MAN stands for Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg, a truck and bus maker from South Germany. This one seems to be a MAN 630 L2AE, a special version built between 1956 and 1975 for the German and Belgium Army. It could carry up to 6 tonnes and came with four-wheel-drive and an 8250 ccm/130 h.p. “multi-fuel” engine which could run on petrol, diesel, mixtures of both and even engine oil. Max speed 67 km/h and 30L diesel on 100 km. There is some more information on this second Wikipedia site. Apparently, most trucks were retired from the German Army in the 1980ies and often were sold to African countries. This one came with a German registration.
